Training Course H:

Checking and Auditing WinDes Submissions

Checking and auditing WINDES Submissions course

A course designed to help checking/development control engineers to assess a WinDes® submission.

Who will benefit? All engineers checking drainage networks for compliance with SFA, the Interim Code of Practice for SUDS, the Code for Sustainable Homes, Climate Change and Exceedance. A good practical knowledge of WinDes® is required.

What will they learn? The impact of a new development upon the existing catchment is a key aspect of this course, which covers determining greenfield runoff, SUDS feasibility, storage estimates, hydraulic performance and a full range of testing from minimum pipe diameters to self-cleansing velocities.

Key Topics: WinDes® functions covered include:

Auditing to the Interim Code of Practice for SUDS & Code for Sustainable Homes:

  • Ascertain greenfield runoff rates
  • Check greenfield volume balance

SUDS Feasibility

  • Assessing the viability of SUDS
  • Anticipating storage volumes for a development

Auditing to comply with current standards to identify:

  • Critical storm durations
  • No flooding for 30 year return period
  • Identify indicative flood flow paths for extreme return periods, accounting for climate change
  • Check the depth, direction and velocity of overland flood routing

The course combines tutorials and training notes with hands-on exercises and tutor-led worked examples. Please note that this course has been developed for checking/development control engineers and contains elements of courses C, F & G.
